Sažetak
The paper analyzes three novels written by Saul Bellow: Herzog, Henderson the Rain King and Seize the Day. Introducing the character of the Jewish hero made Bellow famous among critics and wide reading audience. Most of his works introduce one protagonist, a male Jew, who finds it hard to adapt in the modern society, often because of his Jewish background. Bellow gives little attention to other, especially female, characters. His main preoccupation is how his protagonists integrate into modern society, how they feel in this heartless world, as well as their ‘legacy’ of suffering and their way towards the redemption. The paper also tries to answer whether Bellow is a typical modernist writer and what literary techniques he uses.
