Sažetak
As a contemporary writer, Ian McEwan is a perfect example of an author who employs postmodern literary techniques and devices in his novels. His literary interest ranges from historical issues regarding World War II to contemporary problems of terrorism. A wide array of his characters encompasses children, adults, musicians, journalists, spies, neurosurgeons etc. Time and narrative is analysed in the following thesis on the example of five novels by Ian McEwan: The Innocent (1990), Amsterdam (1998), Atonement (2001), Saturday (2005) and On Chesil Beach (2007). The novels differ extensively regarding not only their topics, but also their temporal frames and narrative voices.
