Sažetak
The paper explores the complex set of relations between Great Britain and the European Union. Britain has a long history and tradition of looking far beyond Europe to the rest of the world – the Commonwealth (formerly the British Empire) as well as the special relationship with the United States. There are many benefits, but also problems, resulting from the British membership of the EU. Only the negative aspects appear to gain publicity, depicting Great Britain as a reluctant European, but since there are many positive aspects of this relationship, perhaps the better term would be the cautious European.
