Sažetak
The paper deals with the acquisition of spatial prepostitions. It begins with the listing of different language learning methods, used throughout the past and continues with learners' characteristics that influence the process of language acquisition. The process of language acquisition is looked at from the point of view of Cognitive Linguistics. Prototype theory is taken as the key in understanding the acquisition process particularly the process of acquisition of spatial prepostitions. The prepositions IN and ON are considered prototypical and therefore they are expected to appear sooner in cognitive processes. In order to check this assumption an experiment was conducted in two primary schools where the knowledge of spatial prepositions: in, on, under, between, behind and in front of was checked. The prepositions in and on proved to be the best known and the most frequently used.
