Sažetak
Jewish immigration to Croatia begins shortly after Ottoman Empire was defeated and Europe is liberated at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. Shortly afterwards in 1729 Hungarian Parliament based on the Article 19 prohibits Jewish immigration to Croatia thereby depriving them to settle in the lands of Croatian Kingdom until the Patent of Joseph II. After 1783 Jewish immigration starts again and, from then on, it is possible to follow their community development in Croatia. Since then and until emancipation in 1873, it is possible to trace several immigration waves (periods) of Jewish families to Croatia which ended with their emancipation. The waves (periods) of immigration depended on the laws adapted in Hungary (Budim). Hungarian authorities gradually extended Jewish rights enabling them to settle in villages and later on to move to the cities and establish Jewish Municipalities. This paper elaborates on the immigration waves (periods) with the aim to chronologically determine and evaluate the approximate number of Jewish population that immigrated to Croatia until 1873.
