Sažetak
The paper concentrates on the collection, storage and use of personal data in Croatia. The main part is focused on legal framework and provisions (internal and external) covering this topic. In comparison with other European countries Croatia is in the group of countries which collect data of an ethnic nature (50% of the Council of Europe member states do not collect such data because their constitutions prohibit it). The author points out that population censuses represent an acceptable form of data collecting with an ethnic component, insofar as the identification of ethnic origin is made on the basis of voluntary declaration and is a form of data collection concerning the whole population.
