Sažetak
Introduction: Diet quality analysis using diet quality index regarding nutritional status and blood parameters may reveal dietary habits that have influence on prevention or promotion diet-depended diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of diet quality using Healthy Eating Indeks (HEI) and dietary fats to obesity and lipid profile of women from Primorsko-goranska county. Methodology: Food consumption of 200 women with average age 54.98±7.67 years was evaluated by HEI scores: less than 51 implied poor diet, 51-80 diet „need improvement“, and over 80 a good diet. Overweight and obesity was classified according to WHO classification. Dana on total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), and triglycerides (TG) were also collected. Chi-square, multiple and logistic regression method was used as statistical analyses. Results and Discussion: Overweight and obesity was observed in 76.5% of women. Diet quality was good in 6.5%, needed improvement in 45.0% and was poor in 48.5% of women. In last group, 73.2% of women were overweight and obese, 93.8% had high total lipids intake (>35%), predominantly saturated fats, 89.6% had high cholesterol (>300 mg) while plasma TG and TC were higher than recommended in 23.7% and 98, 2%, respectively. Among all participants, hgh TG and TC for almost two times ([OR]=1.47, 95%[CI]=1.39-1.87 ; p=0.043 ; [OR]=1.71, 95[CI]=1.25-2.54, p=0.013, respectively). The provided results showed that dietary fats significantly influenced plasma lipid status in examined sample of women. Conclusion: Poor dietary habits, namely high dietary fats and cholesterol were associated to overweight and obesity and to high plasma TG and TC in studied sample of women. Therefore, for diet-depended diseases prevention, the public health nutrition programs are strongly recommended.
