Sažetak
Intensive faunistical and ecological research of horse flies in Eastern Croatia were carried out from 1992 to 1998. During the research period 13439 specimens of horse flies were collected. Other specimens were established upon the basis of the data published in entomological periodicals and the review of the collection belonging to J. Mikuska and my student's collection. On the territory of the Eastern Croatia, a total of 15417 specimens of horse flies were determined. The collected specimens were classified into 44 species and 1 subspecies. The most abundant species of horse flies in Eastern Croatia is Tabanus bromius with 24, 0319%. The collected sample also includes four Mediterranean species: Atylotus flavoguttatus, Tabanus exclusus, Tabanus rupium and Philipomyia graeca. The specimens of four Mediterranean species were mostly collected on the Southern slopes of East Croatian mountains Dilj, Krndija and Papuk. The determined species and subspecies have been collected on 140 stations, that cover 77 fields on the UTM grid of Croatia. The qualitative structure of the determined 44 species and 1 subspecies indicates a great wealth of the horsefly fauna in this marginal part of the Pannonian Plain, especially in the view of the fact that the horsefly fauna of this part of Croatia makes up 59, 2105% of the fauna of horse flies in Croatia.
