Sažetak
Photochemotherapy (PUVA) is a therapeutic method that uses psoralen (P) and exposure to longwave ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation. The Mechanism of PUVA action, pharmacokinetics of psralens, and specific properties of UVA radiation are presented. Various forms of PUVA therapy, i.e. PUVA therapy with peroral psoralen administration, PUVA bath therapy, PUVA therapy with topical psoralen application, and extracorporeal photopheresis are described. Due attention is paid to major indications for PUVA therapy (various forms of psoriasis, T-cell lymphoma, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, graft-versus-host disease, etc.). Emphasis is also given to PUVA therapy side effects, with special reference to its potential carcinogenic effect.
