Sažetak
The aim of this retrospective study was to establish weather the change in perioperatively applied antibiotic prophylaxis impacts incidence of neurosurgical site infections (NSI). In period from January 1st 2002 to December 31st 2004, all consecutive patients undergoing surgery for tumors, vascular lesions, cranioplasty and lumbar discus hernia were included. The mean age of male patients was 49 and female 55, respectively. 600 operative procedures were performed during that period and 21 patients (3, 5%) developed NSI. According to National Nosocomial Infections Surveilance (NNIS) these 21 patients developed superficial incision infections in 57, 1%, deep incision infections in 4, 8% and infection of organ/target organ surrounding space in 38, 1%.
