Sažetak
Cardiac arrest secondary to traumatic injury has a very high mortality rate, with an overall survival of just 2.2% (range, 0-3.7%). In those who survive, a neurological disability in absent in only 0.8% of those suffering from traumatic cardiorespiratory arrest. The aim of this paper is to present a 45 years old patient who survived a cardiorespiratory arrest after a penetrating trauma to the left hemythorax. During the arrest, after 8 min of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a palpabile pulse with sinus ECG rhythm was detected. After 8 days of ICU stay, patient was transferred to the department of surgery in good condition, without neurological disabilities. Further efforts should be made towards continuous education of the medical staff in the hospitals as well as in the pre-hospital settings.
