Sažetak
Middle Dalmatian flysch is located almost centrally in Adriatic belt, and it is attributed to the Middle Dalmatian Basin. Paleogene sediments of Split and Solin environs are mostly in tectonical contacts with Mezozoic basement, except on the west Mosor Mt. slope where we can still see partly preserved basin margin. Split flysch is informally subdivided into theree zones, established already by Kerner in 1905. The lower flysch zone is characterized by turbidite megabeds, some of which show clear evidence of flow reversals. Middle flysch zone is reinterpreted in terms of olistostrome which originated by catastrophic shelf margin collapse, what significantly altered bottom topography. Split flysch comprises several types of megabeds; megaturbidites, “reflected” turbidites, composite turbidites, complex bads, and K-S olistostrome. The lower part od the upper flysch zone comprises the last megabeds. Conglomerate beds which in their proximal part overlie carbonate besement, build partly overlapping alluvial fans nad a bajada on west Mosor. Flysch deposition in Middle Dalmatia commenced in middle Eocene. Since the flysch turbidites interfinger with molasse conglomerates, it is difficult to establish a boundary between these two genetic units. The youngest deposits in the Split-Kaštela Basin are coarsegrained clastics with fauna which indicates Oligocene and Miocene ages, respectively.
