Sažetak
In Croatia every year there are about 400 newly patients diagnosed with the laryngeal malignoma. Morbidity ratio between man and woman is 17:1. Etiology of the disease is directly connected with the tobacco use while genetic predisposition and the role of genetic factors in the etiology of larynx cancer and other solid malignant head and neck tumors are still unclear, and thus have been very actively studied. Dermatoglyphs are relevant for the understanding of the human development and for the differentiation in the early stages of the embryogenesis, which mace them important in studies of human medical pathology. Digito-palmar dermatoglyphs have been used in many studies attempting to understand the genetic etiology of different malignant diseases. In this study we analyzed quantitative and qualitative dermatoglyphic traits, from 40 male patients, with confirmed planocellular carcinoma of the larynx and 100 phenotypicaly healthy controls. Quantitative statistic analysis of two investigated groups did not reveal any statistically significant differences, except for latent structure – factor analysis. The results of Qualitative analysis revealed statistically significant differences in the frequency of pattern types. Although the only latent structure and qualitative dermatoglyphic traits show significant differences the genetic influence of the development of the larynx cancer cannot be underestimated.
