Comparison of Different Question Types; National Exams
Sažetak
Objectives: This study examines whether the subjects' performance varied when the different types of questions were used, and do the different types of questions have considerably different values of discrimination coefficients. Methods: Exams were consisted of different types of questions such as: true/false, multiple-choice with one answer correct, multiple-choice with more than one answer correct, linking, ranking and open-ended questions. Difficulty and discrimination coefficients were observed for each item. Results: Based on analyzed coefficients we have found that closed questions were generally easier for pupils than open-ended questions. These discrimination coefficients were less significant for closed questions than those for open-ended questions. Conclusion: However, the first result was expected since in the closed questions pupils only need to recognize correct answer, while in the open-ended questions they need to recall correct answer. Concerning the second result, open-ended questions probably measure real knowledge while closed questions are more influenced by guessing.
