Brief history of the mobile telephony. Examples of the interference problems reported so far: interference between the mobile telephone and automobile air bags, computers, hearing aids, implanted pacemakers, insulin pumps, electric wheel chairs and sleep monitors. Definition of the art of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and basic concepts: modes of coupling, compatibility level, immunity level. EMC parameters of the mobile telephone: antenna, frequency, modulation. Tackling the interference problem: modelling and experimental approach. Methods of minimization of the risk due to electromagnetic interference. Available international standards and warnings.
