Sažetak
Članak pokazuje nekoliko vidova teološkog pogleda na odnos između Crkve i države polazeći od novozavjetnih mjesta, onoga u sinoptičkim evanđeljima koji govori o potrebi davanja caru careva a Bogu Božjega i trinaestog poglavlja Poslanice Rimljanima koje, posebice u svojim prvim redcima, ukazuje na odnos prema političkoj vlasti, a koji je osobito u teologiji XX. stoljeća naišao na različite interpretacije. Nakon uvoda u kojem se govori o nakani članka, ali se ukazuje i na temeljne probleme u razmatranju toga složenog pitanja, autor u prvom poglavlju govori o nekoliko modela tumačenja biblijskih mjesta o odnosu između Boga i cara u daljnjoj povijesnoj i teološkoj interpretaciji, posebice u reformaciji i u kasnijim razdobljima. U drugom se poglavlju govori o nekim temeljnim interpretacijama Rim 13, 1-7 te se ukazuje na posljedice tih tumačenja za razumijevanje odnosa između Crkve i države. Treće poglavlje ukratko govori o razvoju liberalne demokracije iz perspektive novozavjetnog tumačenja odnosa Crkve i države, ukazujući na posljedice određenih interpretacija na ustavna rješenja u europskoj praksi.

The article presents several aspects of theological view of relation between Church and state. It begins by examining the relevant parts of the New Testament, that is, the Synoptic gospels which speak about the need to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's and the thirteenth chapter of the Epistles to the Romans, which discusses, especially in the first few verses, the relationship toward political authority. This relationship, the author points out, has gone through various interpretations in theology, especially in the course of the twentieth century. After the introduction that explains the aim of the article and the fundamental problems in discussing this complex issue, the author proceeds in the first chapter by presenting a few models of interpretation of the relevant biblical passages on the relationship between God and Caesar. These interpretative models, the author claims, played a significant role in history and theology, especially during the Reformation and later on. In the second chapter the author discusses some fundamental interpretations of the Rom 13:1-7 and points out the consequences of these interpretations for understanding the relationship between Church and state. The third chapter briefly reflects on the development of liberal democracy from the perspective of the New Testament understanding of the relationship between Church and state, and points out the consequences of certain interpretations on constitutional resolutions in European practise.
