Sažetak
In this thesis I articulate and define Open Source Art as a field of contemporary cultural practice in the post-medium condition. For this purpose, and as an addition to the discourse regarding the notion of the post-medium, I suggest a new theoretical model of the cultural object. With the aid of this tool I explore the structural relations within the open source cultural object, based on which the specificity of this practice emerges. Through this model I attempt to provide a framework in which the social and economic significance of the open source principles of software production and distribution is transferred into political aesthetics of contemporary artistic production. This aesthetical framework provides means to distinguish open source artworks from the mass cultural forms of new media. The results of this discussion establish the connection between structural and formal characteristics of Open Source Art with its political position in the given historical moment. I also provide reflections on the consequences of the presented approach and the practice itself on the discipline of art history and its object of research. Based on the results of the study of Open Source Art, I suggest certain conventions of the cultural object in the post-medium condition.
