Sažetak
Iodinated contrast media (ICM) are widely used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for vascular diseases. Patients at a high risk to develop such adverse events have to be detected on the basis of their risk factors in order to prevent or limit serious outcomes. Previous reactions to contrast media, asthma, atopy and cardiovascular disorders are risk factors for anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions. Three main types of skin test are in use: skin prick test, intradermal test and patch test. Although switching to nonionic agents significantly reduces the incidence of immediate reactions to contrast media, there is little consensus regarding corticosteroid prophylaxis in high-risk individuals. Patients should be advised to seek medical care if they experience skin reactions up to 1 week after iodinated contrast medium injection.
