Sažetak
Antihistamines are antagonists of histamine receptors: H1, H2, H3 and H4. Allergic diseases in which they are particularly effective in dermatology include urticaria, angioedema, mastocytosis, contact allergy and atopic dermatitis, reactions to insect stings, pruritic dermatoses, and anaphylactoid reactions. For the suppression of allergic symptoms antihistamines are used as the systemic drugs alone or in combination with corticosteroids, sodium cromoglycate, and leukotriene antagonists. The chapter describes pathophysiological features of antihistamines, their indications, most commonly prescribed antagonists of H1 receptors and their side effects, and combination of H1 and H2 antihistamines which have proven efficacy in chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU). In 1933 was discovered the first AH - piperoxan. After that, a number of antagonists of H1-receptors of the first generation were discovered as well as second and third generation of AH that are selective, non- sedating and non-cardiotoxic.
