Sažetak
Ecotourism is a modern concept in the tourism industry, based on respect for natural environment, its promotion in tourism and economic purposes and appreciation of society values for future generations. The main goal of ecotourism is to interact with nature. To enjoy nature, to exploit nature in order to bring economic progress to tourism destinations in a short or long range sense, requires rational and long-term management. In other words, it means that modern management over ecology and ecotourism destinations is necessary. The main start point of strategic management in developing tourism destinations is safeguarding the natural environment from various negative influences in order to provide to tourists a pleasant stay in a certain area. Up to now far greater significance has been given to protection, environment arrangement and preservation of nature within tourism establishments, whilst on a wider range it was not the case. This is confirmed by numerous remarks given by tourists through questionnaires, stating that besides the poorly tended and neglected environment of non-tourism oriented places, pointed out should be ill-tended beaches and other community issues. The ecological area value as part of the tourism product of a destination or country as a whole represents a strong market weapon and a significant market instrument and a significant marketing mix component. This study also deals with various measures and activities that need to be taken and introduced into tourism destination management to the benefit of both tourists and tourism industry in order to improve the quality of the tourism offer and preservation of nature for future generations. Since ecotourism is closely connected with other types of tourism, particularly with selective tourism, its expansion is conditioned by market mechanisms and integration into other economy and non-economic branches. Awareness of the damage mass tourism carries has to be present, especially industrialisation, non-ecological agriculture, construction industry , ecological and tourism valuable resources of a particular destination.
