Arbitration in Roman law was primarily a comprehensive pursuit for the truth. This paper analyses the values, guidelines, tendencies and techniques in the pursuit for the truth in Roman arbitration proceedings and their relation to the idea of efficient justice as Roman jurists perceived it in their practical considerations.
