Sažetak
On March 31st 2009 a disaster occurred when a freight train was crossing Sava Jakuševac railway bridge in Zagreb. Due to, what was later discovered, sapping of the pier foundation, one of the middle piers sank and tilted which caused heavy deformation of the steel girders superstructure. The train was stopped on time, and an even greater disaster was avoided. The bridge was closed for traffic and an extensive rehabilitation project was started. The pier rehabilitation comprised temporary supports around the sapped pier for the superstructure, jet grouting of the foundation soil, demolition of the tilted pier and erection of the new concrete pear. The superstructure rehabilitation comprised removing steel elements where plastic deformations occurred and replacing them with new steel elements using rivets. Concrete bearing pads on the adjacent piers were also reconstructed.
