Application of computer graphics in textile conservation during the documentation process
(textile conservation and restoration; computer graphics; documentation process; graphic drawings; Photoshop; CorelDRAW)
Sažetak
The time in which we are living is marked by the accelerated development of new technologies that can be adapted and applied in many aspects of conservation and restoration profession. As a non- destructive method of analysis, computer graphics are applicable to the conservation and restoration of textile through the processing of digital photography, for graphic analyses, and for making sketches and images using specialized software. It is an essential tool in documenting the course of each phase of the modern conservation process. Computer graphic methods facilitate the creation of a visual record and spatial display of objects that are being conserved. Drawing and photo editing programs, such as Photoshop and Corel Draw are used and have the capacity to process 2D vector graphics. The fact that every object that goes through the process of conservation and restoration is unique makes the complex process of documentation particularly challenging and it must be adapted to the specific problems encountered. In this context the application of computer graphics for the conservator and restorer requires a particular expertise, the use of specialized programs, and an understanding of the specific construction and problems relating to the objects under study.
