Sažetak
Objectives: The CPITN index and the oral hygiene index were measured on crowns and hed partial denture (FPD) retainers in a group of elderly patients, and analyzed by gender and age. Material and methods. A sample of 89 dentate elderly (over 60 years of age) with crowns and FPDs, patients of the Dental Clinic, and 2O control adolescents, were clinically examined. The CPITN and oral hygiene index (OHI) were measured in crowns and FPD retainers, and natural teeth in control adolescents, and statistically analyzed. Results h d e r of subjed did not statistically significantly influence the CPITN or OH index scores for crowns and iPD retainers @>0.05), while age significantly influenced the OH1 scores wO.05). Pearson's correlation was itatistically significant between the CPITN and OH1 scores, for both male and female subjects and in all age youps (R4.721, p<O.O5). On the average, the highest CPITN scores (mean = 3.23, SB2.01) were measurec n FPD retainers of 76-85 year-old male subjects. The FPD retainers had significantly higher CPITN and OH cores than the crowns @<0.05), regardless of age or gender of subject, while the crowns were older than thc 'PDs. There was significant difference in CPITN and OH index scores between elderly patients and contro uiolescents. Conclusions: Oral hygiene is the most significant factor influencing the state and functionality 01 xoms and FPDs as well as the condition of the supporting periodontiurn. Subjects' age influences the ora iealth state, with the most important factor being the ability to properly maintain oral hygiene.
