Sažetak
The Columbus Bridge Protocol by Tealdo, Bevilacqua and Pera recommends surgical and prosthetic guidelines for an immediately loaded, implant- supported prosthesis in the edentulous maxilla. This book offers a clean line of demarcation between commercial interests and professional ones. It recognizes the indispensable role of proven clinical quality standards above commercial product specification. The immediate occlusal loading protocol offers numerous advantages. These include shorter treatment times ; elimination of provisional removable prostheses and consequent psychological benefits ; fewer surgical appointments and, as a result, less tissue damage ; and the possibility of decreased direct costs for the patient and less time away from work. Immediate occlusal loading in edentulous patients should no longer be regarded as having risk factors higher than the risk factors associated with implant placement and unloaded healing protocols. The book is divided into 17 chapters that systematically introduce the reader to the following issues. It establishes the principles of the implantprosthetic therapy, indicates the flow of healing tissue and bone regeneration around dental implants and presents detailed presurgical diagnostic procedures, choice of implant type, primary stability, angled implants, prosthetic abutments, laboratory procedures, full arch fixed prosthetic treatment with and without reconstruction of soft tissues, complications and their management, patients instructions, hygiene and clinical follow up. The book contains over seven hundred photographs, and most of them are case studies that can serve as a good reminder of the clinical work. It is interesting to note why the authors chose the name Columbus Bridge Protocol. They thought that as Columbus meticulously prepared for his voyage, which was considered indispensable for him and his crew to reach new horizons, the clinicians should possess the same curiosity and skill in preparing to treat their patients. Much like Columbus exhibited in his desire to explore the New World. The book is intended for oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and all clinicians who wanted to improve work and extend their approaches.
