Sažetak
Noticeable mortality of 30- to 50-day old sea bass larvae (13–16 mm) has been observed for several years. The high mortality rate is accompanied by hypertrophy of the swim bladder and appears to be attributable to problems related to feeding. The common production practice is to feed brine shrimp (Artemia salina) as a sole food source to larval sea bass, at least during the first 35–40 days. Reducing the period in which brine shrimp nauplii were utilized as a main food source increased survival and growth of 60-day-old fish. A total of 20 000 sea bass were reared in flat-bottom tanks (total water volume 4.8 m3) to metamorphosis with 40% survival at 60 days.
