Sažetak
This thesis describes elements of the legend about King Arthur and the role of the character of King Arthur in Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising Sequence (1965-1977). Events from King Arthur’s life, characters and other motifs (from the legend) are found in Cooper’s series of five young adult heroic fantasy novels. The author widely relies on Arthurian, Celtic, and British legends and frequently refers to them in the quintet. She even provides historical background for her narratives to connect them with ‘historical’ Arthur. Whether real or just imaginary, King Arthur remains a figure of interest for many authors, including Susan Cooper. The legend adds to the appeal of narratives based upon Arthurian legends, making them popular among both child and adult readers.
