Sažetak
The aim of this investigation was to strengthen the importance of CT scanning for the diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizophreniform psychoses and to explicit the motor disorders of schizophrenic or schizophreniform patients by CT scanning, too. We reviewed the results of the 34 CT scans of schizophrenic or schizophreniform patients (males-19, females-15). The patients were treated and examined at the Psychiatric Clinic in Rijeka during the period 1990-1992 ( the war-time of ristricted indications for CT ). They were clinically examined according to subclinical groups and types of motor disorders. The results of clinical examination in subclinical groups were: schizophrenia simples (ICD-9:295 ; ICD-10:F20.6) – 13 (m-7, f-6), paranoid schizophrenia (ICD-9:295.3 ; ICD-10:F20.0) - 12 (m-8, f-4) and schizoaffective psychosis (ICD-9:295.7 ; ICD-10:F25.9) - 9 (m-4, f-5). The results of clinical examination according to types of motor disorders were: motor retardation - 10 (m-4, f-6), stupor i.e. uncooperativeness - 6 (m-2, f-4) and agitation i.e. hyperactivity - 18 (m-13, f-5). The positive or border findings of CT in subclinical groups were: schizophrenia simplex - 6 (m-2, f-4), paranoid schizophrenia - 9 (m-6, f-3) and schizoaffective psychoses - 8 (m-4, f-4). The negative findings of CT in subclinical groups were: schizophrenia simplex - 7 (m-5, f-2), paranoid schizophrenia -3 (m-2, f-1) and schizoaffective psychoses -1 (m-0, f-1). The positive or border findings of CT due to motor disorders were: motor retardation - 7, stupor - 3 and hyperactivity - 6. The negative findings of CT in relation to motor disorders were: motor retardation - 3, stupor - 2 and hyperactivity - 6. The number of structural brain abnormalities accompainied by motor disorders was: motor retardation - 14, stupor - 8 and hyperactivity -27. The findings of CT indicating the structural brain abnormalities and motor disorders were: enlarged subarachnoidal space - 21 (mot ret-7, stupor-2, hyperactivity-12), cortical atrophy -17 (mot ret-4, stup-3, hyper-10), enlarged ventricles - 7 (mot ret-1, stup-2, hyper-4), cyst/abscess/calcification -4 (mot ret-2, stup-1, hyper-1). In that period no tumor was found. The results of this investigation, in spite of ten older CT scans, show that CT scanning is important in the diagnosis of schizoaffective psychoses and in motor retardation. The importance of enlarged subarachnoidal space for motor retardation and hyperactivity, as well as cortical atrophy for stupor, i.e. uncooperativeness shoud also be considered.
