Sažetak
Gram-positive pathogens in intensive care units are responsible for 20-25% of infections. Infections can be subdivided into 2 major groups: infections from the general population (community acquired infections), mostly meningitis and bacterial pneumonia, rarely sepsis, and hospital infections which include mostly hospital pneumonias and sepsis. Data analysis on patients treated in intensive care units in Croatia during 1999 and first 6 months of the year 200, revealed 15/35 cases of community acquired purulent meningitis caused by S.pneumoniae, 15/50 pneumonias caused by S.pneumoniae, and 5 caused by Staphylococcus. Among nosocomial infections, Staphylococcal pneumonias were detected in 31 cases and sepsis and bacteremias in 19. Of isolated S.pneumoniae strains, one was penicillin resistant, two were intermediately susceptible to penicillin, while others showed good susceptibility. Among staphylococcal infections we recorded 36 MRSA and 24 MSSA strains. The presented data do not include strains isolated from tracheal aspirate, bronchoalveolar lavage and wound swabs.
