Sažetak
The territory of Croatia belongs to seismically and tectonically active regions of the northeastern circum-Mediterranean belt responsible for about 15% of the annual seismic energy release. Geological, geophysical and geodetic data confirm quite intensive Cenozoic geodynamic movements triggered by convergence between Adriatic and European plate. Distribution of earthquakes data on recent and neotectonic activity confirm that NW Croatia and Croatian Adriatic region are the most seismotectonically active regions in Croatia, suggesting that transpression still predominates with a probability for partitioning of on-going movements along inherited Eocene-Miocene faults and along younger Pliocene-Quaternary faults From structural point of view, NW Croatia lies in transitional area between Southeastern Alps, Dinarides and the Pannonian basin, at the complex intersection position between the Periadriatic, Balaton and Drava transcurrent faults mostly tectonically active during Neogene and Quaternary. Studied area as part of SW Pannonian basin is covered by thick fill of Neogene-Quaternary sediments, which are bounded by reverse and strike-slip faults and/or pop-up structures formed due transpression since the Pliocene accommodating part of on-going CCW movements of Adriatic microplate. In proposed talk about ongoing PhD research in Neotectonic and recent active faults in Bilogora hill area and assessment of their seismogenic potential we presented tectonic features, geology settings and seismicity of studied area as well as applied and suggested research methodology in order to testify and assess on-going seismic activity with Neogene-Quaternary active faults in Bilogora hill area.
