Sažetak
In this work, the influence of citric acid (CA) on the surface modification of blast furnace sludge (BFS) was examined. The sample of original BFS, provided by a Croatian Iron & Steelmaking Company, was dried at 105 °C for 4 hours to yield a powder of a particle diameter less than 0.1 mm. Examined sample dominated by amorphous phase ( >75 %) ; consists mainly of carbon (31.74%) and metal carbonates and oxides. Surface area properties (specific surface area, average pore diameter, total pore volume) are determined by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) method. Before analyse, the BFS samples were heated at a temperature of 50°C and evacuated under 666.5∙10-3 Pa pressure in order to remove any contaminants as well as moisture that might be present on the surface. Surface morphology of BFS samples was examined by the method of qualitative scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using Jeol JXA 50A microscope. Citric acid as a surface modifier is decreased BET surface and the average pore diameter of BFS, but increased the number of carboxylic group as the active site binding the adsorbates.
