Sažetak
The theoretical framework of the paper leans on different definitions of identity and on Robinson’s model of analyzing meanings of popular music (Robinson et al. 1991: 13-24). In the empirical part of the article the authors analyze a number of popular songs lyrics, both local (Croatian) and foreign (mostly American and UK), in order to establish what the musical preferences of listeners and the prevalent topics are and what identities can be found in songs that could influence listeners. The tool for analysis is Critical Discourse Analysis which places discourse, and songs are discourse, and society in a dialectic relationship.
