Sažetak
Aim: The author studied the aggressiiveness as an obvious characteristic of paranoid schizophrenic patients and defined its categories. Methods: Plutchik's Emotions profile index ( PIE ) was used to measure the aggressiveness because it enables-as no other test-direct measuring of aggressiveness. This personality test defines three categories of aggressiveness: non-aggressiveness, socially acceptable aggressiveness, and socially non-acceptable aggressiveness, according to the percentage of words revealing aggressiveness. The research was carried out in a group of 34 patients hospitalized for the first time with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia ; in a group of 52 patients hospitalized for the first time with the diagnosis of simple paranoid status ( without schizophrenic characteristics) ; and a group of 71 patients hospitalized for the first time with the diagnosis of alcoholism (without paranoid or schizophrenic characteristics). The patients were hospitalized at the Psychiatric Clinic of Rijeka during a period from 1981 to 1990. Results: The results of the PIE test reveal a well marked aggressiveness of the patients with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and simple paranoid status. There is a significant statistic difference between paranoids (both schizophrenic and non-schizophrenic ) and alcoholics, according to the number of categories of aggressiveness. Conclusions: Paranoid correlates with aggressiveness. Therefore, it is recommendable to analyze the whole paranoid symptomatology with the PIE test, because it can easily and quickly provide infornmation on the personality characteristics, and in particular, directly measure the aggressiveness, as an obvious characteristic of paranoid patients.
