Sažetak
Tandemly organized repetitive sequences (satellite DNA) are widespread in complex eukaryotic genomes. The turnover of highly repetitive satellite DNA is an important element in genome organization and evolution in plants. In this study we assess the presence of satellite DNA family AhTR1 in the worldwide distributed Anemone genus. Our goals were to evaluate the taxonomic and phylogenetic signal of a satellite DNA family in the genus. Twenty-nine accessions from Anemone, Hepatica and Pulsatilla were analyzed by PCR. The AhTR1 repeat unit was amplified in 8 of 20 Anemone taxa, while in the Pullsatila and Hepatica it was not amplified. Not all 8 Anemone species are phylogenetically related. However, five of these species belong to the Mediterranean group of anemones (the Coronaria group). The use of the AhTR1family as a phylogenetic marker in Anemone should be viewed with caution. Its amplification appears to have been produced through independent evolutionary episodes in anemone species.
