Sažetak
The paper deals with sources and drivers of cost and time overruns in construction projects. The main objective of this research is to find a distinction between various overrun causes. Results of an investigation of overrun scenarios on 300 construction projects are described including a comment on building permit and approvals, climate, unsolved finance, unrealistic plan and design changes which are all marked as the five main sources of overruns. Particular attention is given to the human role in the escalation of overrun occurrence. The key conclusion is that "human" causes of overruns can be easily managed to reduce overall project cost and time overruns. Although the sample projects are from within Croatia, the results are valuable for other countries.
