Sažetak
Aim: During the last 50 years many researchers have noted the connection between fatty food and depression. In this research that connection was analyzed in our Mediterranean Croatia conditions. Subject and methods: About 40 people (20 men and 20 women) from Rijeka were randomly chosen in the period between August and November 2004. They were polled by a questionnaire, which consisted of 8 questions concerning their diet, 8 questions concering depression and 7 questions concerning their socio demographic and cultural situation. Results: The results have shown that nearly half of them have eaten food without fat and that half of them had no depression. About 30% of them have eaten extremely fatty food and only one of them (one woman) has strong depression. The results also show that middle-aged women with faculty education and their own flat and who were born in one of the bigger towns in Croatia dominated this group - they preferred food without fat. Conclusion: A lot of people in one Mediterranean town such Rijeka have a habit to eat food without fatness and probably therefore have no depression. That was expected, because many people in Rijeka eat fish and consume olive oil. References: 1. Carper J: Hrana-čudesni lijek. Rijeka, Leo-commerce, 2000 2.
