Sažetak
The most successful durable flame retardants for cellulose are based on phosphorous- and nitrogen-containing chemical compounds that can react with the fibre or form crosslinked structures on the fibre. Resistance to burning is one of the most desirable properties of cotton. Halogen free hydoxy-functional organophosphorus oligomer was used for the flame retardant (FR) finishing of cotton material. Since FR agents do not have a functional group that can react with cotton (cellulose), bonding agent and appropriate catalyst were used causing the flame retarding system become durable to multiple laundering cycles. In this paper FR properties of treated cotton were investigated as well as stability of the processed material to washing. Flame retardance was tested using Limiting oxygen index (LOI) technique. The following methods of analysis were used for physico-chemical characterization: thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), TG – FTIR analysis, FT-IR spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A highly efficient FR treatment was developed for articles where washing is not needed.
