Sažetak
The rate of adsorption of cationic softeners on cotton/modacrylic knitted fabrics was determined by monitoring the change of the streaming potential. The streaming potential is used to calculate the zeta potential at the interface between a solid surface and a surrounding aqueous solution. The zeta potential describes the surface charge of the knitted fabrics and its changes upon adsorption of the quaternary ammonium compounds contained in the fabric softener. The effects of softener concentration in the bath solution and of the composition of the cotton/modacrylic fabric on the adsorption kinetics were investigated. The durability of the softening effect was estimated from the isoelectric point of the treated fabric obtained after multiple rinse cycles.
