Sažetak
Tensiomiography is a validated, reliable and non-invasive technique to assess superficial skeletal muscle contractile properties. It is based on recording maximal radial displacement of the muscle belly and determining temporal characteristics - namely delay, contraction, relaxation and sustain times - of a standardized, electrically-evoked involuntary muscle contraction. Several studies have reported on its practical usefulness in objectively determining individual muscle performance characteristics in various medical and sports medical fields. Tensiomyography is used to assess muscle symmetry, disuse atrophy, local muscle fatifue, adaptive potential to specific training, fiber type distribution, as well as the effects of exercise induced muscle damage. Furthermore, the technique can be used to determine therapeutic modalities such as cold water immersion, stratching, kinesio taping, kinesiotherapy and foam rolling. Through a review of current literature and case studies we demonstrate that tensiomyography may be a valuable tool that complements the physiotherapist's range of skills and functional testing options to make a more informed decisions about functional diagnosis, method of treatment, the course of therapy and return to play, especially in an elite football setting. In acute injuries tensiomyography can help the physiotherapist determine the extent of muscle damage by comparing propterties of the healthy contralateral muscle. In chronic and/or overuse injuries tensiomyography assists the physiotherapist in building a model of the potential cause of injury. In conjunction with results obtained from functional examination, tensiomyographic information assists physiotherapists determine the most appropriate therapeutic approach. During the ensuing course of therapy tensiomyography can be used to monitor progress of healing, providing valuable information to the player management team. During kinesiotherapy and later therapeutic functional training it is essential to positive treatment outcome that local muscle fatigue is avoided within each treatment session ; through functional testing in conjunction with tensiomyography assessments local muscle fatigue can be assessed and avoided.
