Sažetak
The tested wood floorings from the point of resistance to biotic and abiotic factors, as well as from the point of resistance during further processing are demanding furniture products, whose primary characteristic is durability. Relevant properties of these samples are dimensional stability, strength and hardness, depending on the type of wood, workability, permeability and impregnability. So far, for this type of flooring harder types of wood, mostly from tropical areas, exclusively were used, which are dimensional stable and durable. Thermal modification of wood, as a suitable technique to protect the wood, in most species decreases wood hygroscopicity, while improving dimensional stability, but also some relevant mechanical properties such as compressive and flexural strength and hardness are weakened. Reduction of hygroscopicity is mostly due to significant decomposition of wood hemicellulose, which affects the functionality resistance to biotic reasons for decay. During time there are more thermally modified domestic species of wood used for flooring.
