Sažetak
The paper deals with the necessity of using electronic charts in the navigation of pleasure and recreation craft of about 30 tons of displacemen. The topic has been approached from the safety of navigation point of view, with particular reference to tourist boating activities. Such pleasure craft are usually handled by laymen, or in the very case, persons without sufficient nautical education and training. The major problems encountered at sea are those associated with orientation, taking a fix, passage planing, determing the effect of currents etc. Those can be succesfully coped with by the use of vector electronic charts stored in a water resistant personal computer. Such electronic charts may lead to substantial decrease of collisions, strandings and other hazards at sea.
