Sažetak
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in most of the world countries. Particularly worrying is increasing occurrence of cardiovascular risk factors in childhood and adolescence, primarily related to poor life-style and dietary habits. The aim of this study was to assess life-style and dietary habits of two groups of adolescents: one diagnosed with (test group) and the other without (study group) cardiovascular risk factors. The participants, aged 13 to 15, were selected through the regular medical examination. The study group consisted of 17 (12 male and 5 female) adolescents, diagnosed with one or more cardiovascular risks. The control group consisted of 131 (71 male and 60 female) adolescents, not diagnosed with any cardiovascular risk. The assessment of life-style and dietary habits was carried out using questionnaire, specially created for this population. The results of this study show that notable differences between the habits of both groups can be revealed. The control group is more actively involved in sports and light physical activity, while the study group spends more time in sedentary activities. Assessment of dietary habits indicates more regular habits of control group, which has breakfast more often, significantly more often consumes fruit and vegetables, cereals and cereal products, milk and dairy products. Frequency of red meat and meat product consumption is similar in both groups ; however, the study group consumes fast food more frequently. The presence of cardiovascular risk factors in the study group can be correlated with their irregular life-style and dietary habits.
