Sažetak
In view of the fact that there are not many studies dealing with stylistic and semantic differences between computing and Internet Anglisicms and their native equivalents, the goal of this B.A. thesis is to investigate those differences. Based on the findings of research conducted in different European languages, as well as in Croatian, the main hypothesis predicts that Anglicisms and their native equivalents differentiate semantically and stylistically. The study was carried out among 109 students of the University of Rijeka, who were asked to fill in a questionnaire. The survey findings indicate that the respondents find the majority of computing and Internet Anglicisms and their Croatian equivalents semantically different. Furthermore, the majority of the respondents finds computing and Internet Anglicisms more informal than their native counterparts. Croatian equivalents to computing and Internet Anglicisms which were proposed within Jezik Best New Croatian Word contest were widely described as funny, inappropriate, unclear and clumsy.
