Sažetak
The thesis deals with a group of English words which appeared in job advertisements in three Croatian newspapers. It opens with a short overview of the influence of the English language in various European languages. This is followed by the orthographic, morphological and word-formational analysis of these anglicisms according to Görlach (2002) and Filipović (2002). The third part seeks to answer the question whether there are unnecessary loanwords in the Croatian language. The analysis of results showed that some of the anglicisms in the examined advertisements were integrated graphemically into Croatian language system by respelling (e.g. dispečer) and some retain English spelling (e.g. booker). All of the anglicisms from the examined advertisements are fully integrated into the inflectional system of Croatian language for case, gender and number. Examples of completely unadapted anglicisms according to word-formational and orthographic rules are semi-compounds (e.g. call operater). The author concludes that Croatian language users should use Croatian words instead of foreign words where there are adequate Croatian equivalents which succeed to express everything that is expressed by using the foreign word. If there is no Croatian equivalent, loanwords should be used, but in their adapted form.
