Sažetak
Water pollution by organic and inorganic chemicals is a major problem over decades. so that removal of contaminants from polluted water has become a major focus of research and policy debate. In this study waste mould sand (WMS) from foundry industry was chosen to be tested as low cost adsorbent for removal of Ni(II), Cr(VI) and phenol from aqueous solutions at 293 K. Batch studies in single component systems were performed in order to evaluate the influence of contact time and initial concentration on the removal capability of WMS. Equilibrium isotherms for the adsorption on WMS were analyzed by Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations using linear correlation coefficients. Langmuir isotherm of adsorption for the systems studied gives a best fit with experimental observations. Capability of WMS to remove phenol, Cr(VI) and Ni(II) from aqueous solutions was demonstrated and thermodynamic analysis has shown that adsorption in systems under the study is spontaneous process.
