Sažetak
In this work alloy EN AW 5083 was studied with the aim to see the influence of microstructure on hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility in as-cast and homogenized condition, respectively. Hydrogenation of tensile samples was performed by the method of electrochemical cathodic charging in solution of 0.5 M H2SO4. Tensile behaviour has shown that hydrogen has a deleterious effect on mechanical properties, predominantly on contraction Z, while yield strength and tensile strength values remain unchanged for as-cast specimens in uncharged and H-charged conditions. After single step homogenization treatment at 520°C for 8 hours, hydrogenated specimens haven’t shown significant differences in tensile behaviour so that hydrogen embrittlement index HEI is comparable to the one calculated for as-cast hydrogenated specimens. The reason for this was revealed by metallographic and SEM analyses which have shown that homogenization had little effect on the grain structure as well as on type and morphology of precipitates in microstructure of EN AW 5083.
