Sažetak
Preparation methods and conditions of supported palladium catalysts and their effects on the catalytic properties werer studied using hydrogenation of 1-methoxy-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-ethane to 1-methoxy-2-(4-aminophenyl)-ethane as a model reaction. Reaction was performed in a stirred slurry reactor at 313 K and 200 kPa. The initial rate data were analysed to check the importance of internal and external mass transfer resistances.
The X-ray diffraction measurements have showed that the mean crystallite size is affected by catalyst preparation techniques as well as by the pH: under the acid condition the larger particles are produced, but under the neutral conditions they are much smaller. the best catalyst is obtained by precipitation with pH around 4.5.
It has also been found that reaction rate over pd/C depend on the crystallite size which means that the hydrogenation of 1-methoxy-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-ethane is a structure-sensitive reaction.
