Sažetak
Harsh conditions during the cotton pretreatments change fabric hand but also affect thermophysiological comfort as well as the mechanical performance which is highly reflected to sewability properties of knitted fabrics. It is well known that the sewability properties depend on fabric construction, fineness of fibres and finishing treatments, although some chemical and most mechanical finishing processes improve it. In the last few decades good progress was achieved in this area by treatments with a wide chemical range of softeners, from cationic to silicone compounds for the successful results in fabric friction coefficient hand, hydrophilicity and sewability properties, as well. This paper discusses about fabric sewability, fabric friction, moisture management and air permeability properties of the fabrics treated with a wide range of softeners baths, from viscous dispersion, through macroemulsion and microemulsion to nanoemulsion. Selection of these softeners is based on their influence on hydrophilicity of treated fabrics. This investigation is carried out by measuring the fabric sewability, in terms of needle penetration force, fabric friction coefficient by using FRICTORQ surface tester, moisture management by ATLAS Tester and air permeability by using SDL Atlas Tester. For needle penetration force measurements a special instrument with sensors was used. For this purpose the samples of knitted fabric are stitched on the Pfaff 1053 sewing machine using double lockstitches. It was found that application of silicon nanoemulsion results in high hydrophilicity and betters other fabrics properties.
