Sažetak
Environmental requirements, emering markets and an emphasis on increases profitability have focused a great deal of attention on the fature of catalytic reforming. Progressive removal of lead from gasoline frequently requires an increase of operating severity in catalytic reforming, which is the major source of aromatics in gasoline, and consequently its octane number. In this paper the effect of increased process severity on the gasoline characteristics, especially research octane number (RON) and benzene content is discussed. The experiments were carried out at space velocities ranging from 2.7 to 5.4 h-1, at temperatures of 505 and 525 oC, an operating pressure of 1.2 MPa, using commercial Pt-Re/Al_2O_3 (UOP-R-62) catalyst. The already known relationship between process parameters, published for different types of catalyst, feed and operating conditions was confirmed. These results also confirm a need for some changes in existing technological configuration of many refineries in order to meet new gasoline requirements for environmental protection.
