Sažetak
This paper provides an overview of foster care for children in Croatia. Its purpose is to present information about foster care in Croatia and to describe joint activities of experts, non-governmental organisations and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare undertaken to improve current situation within the context of deinstitutionalisation at the national level. Based on the research and survey data the trends in fostering and features of fostered children and foster parents are described, focusing at the characteristics, motives, experiences and problems of fostering. The activities taken in order to upgrade a foster care system are outlined and recommendations for further actions and research are given.
